Working within a dynamic space is just one of the many fun and challenging aspects of a medical fitout. For Team 8 Physio, working with the existing building’s unique structure to create a welcoming and stylish space that fits both the practical requirements of a physio and client’s vision, would have been impossible without the right team.
Client overview: Team 8 Physio
Located in the Northern Beaches area of Dee Why, the Team 8 Physio clinic offers a range of therapies for pain relief from sports injuries and movement issues. Services include physiotherapy, sports and remedial massage, post-op rehab as well as senior and group exercise classes to name a few.
As such, there were several key elements of the brief that had to be considered, says Mr Chauhan, Space for Health’s Head of Design for Corporate Clients. The final space needed to have four separate consultation rooms, as well as exercise space for up to eight people as per the client’s brief. On top of this, the space needed to have all the other fitout requirements of a clinic, such as a reception area and waiting room – all while complying with regulations.
What were some of the unique challenges designing this space?
“The small tenancy is a very dynamic shape,” says Mr Chauhan. “It’s not a rectangle, not a circle or a square – there’s angled walls everywhere. The key challenge was to fit in these consultation rooms and comply with the Australian standards at the same time.”
“A significant challenge was that the tenancy has beams running above in the ceiling space. That restricted the ceiling height, resulting in a few bulkheads in the finished space. However, that actually helped us with the dynamic design we have done, and we’ve introduced a few curves to mellow it up a little bit.”
Included in the design elements were the implementation of creative lighting solutions to create the impression of space, such as concealed lighting in the reception desk to give the impression of weightlessness, as well as incorporating timber and wood elements to make the space warm and inviting.
End result? A standout blend of form and function
A prime example of a space with a ‘wow’ factor, Team 8 Physio were ecstatic with the end result.
“Our physio practice turned out better than we could have hoped. A very professional team, nothing was too much trouble and we were so pleased that the project was completed within the expected timeframe. We will go straight to Space For Health (Group HiS) for any future projects,” says Practice Manager Rhea Smith.
